Having a carpet on the floor can look nice in a room since it adds comfort to that area. And just like all the other stuff we have in our home, it needs regular maintenance to ensure that it doesn’t look worn out.

However, despite all the cleaning, there will come a time that it becomes too old, and signs of replacement will start to surface. This is true especially for carpets that have been installed for several years already and even with all the heavy cleaning, you simply can’t get it back to its clean state.

If you own a carpet that’s been with you for too long, then it’s time to look out for these signs so that you’ll know that it’s finally time to replace them.

Signs That You Need to Replace Your Carpet

Extensive mould

Mould is a common problem that can inflict carpets, usually caused by damp patches or a humid atmosphere. You may notice the smell first, followed by green or grey patches in your flooring. Mould usually starts underneath a carpet and progresses towards the surface, so if you lift a carpet up slightly, you can inspect whether mould may be present.

If you spot mould in a carpet, it’s important to take action straight away. A professional carpet cleaning company can use expert steam cleaning methods to shift troublesome areas. However, if mould is extensive, especially underneath the carpet, a new carpet might be in order. Source: Carpet Bright

Wear and Tear on Carpet

Has your carpet seen better days? Are you putting rugs all over it to cover rips and tears, or rearranging furniture to cover defects? Are your kids scared to lay on it? Matted carpet, tears, and significant wear on the main walkways are major signs your carpet is on its deathbed.

Polyester carpet fibers have a reputation for matting and losing their form. Once it falls down and loses its tuft, it doesn’t return to normal, even with professional cleaning. Nylon carpeting, however, is typically more resilient than polyester and responds well to carpet cleaning, even when matted down.

You might be able to fix small tears and rips yourself, or you can hire a carpet professional to make the repair. However, large rips and tears tend to signal the carpet needs to be replaced, especially if the tears are present on stairs or major walkways. Source: Angi

Fading or Stains

Color change, in the form of fading or stains, may be one reason why you wish to replace your rugs. “The wear and tear from shoes or people walking on the carpet over time will show fading in certain areas,” Callie Rippolone, of Callie Rippolone Design, says. “You might have stains that you have had removed multiple times and unfortunately will no longer come out even with a professional cleaning.” If you anticipate that your rug will experience a decent amount of wear and tear in your home, you may wish to opt for a washable rug from the beginning. As Vera says, “Washable rugs can extend the life of your rug so you’re less likely to need a replacement— unless you want to swap it out for a new style, of course!”  Source: The Spruce

Don’t prolong having carpets with these signs because they might even be housing bacteria that could be risky for everyone especially children. You should start browsing for a new one and feel pleased in seeing it installed on your floor.
