Carpets add a new style to the natural environment of your home. They represent the lifestyle of a household so there’s no denying that they need some care from time-to-time.

The reason why carpets need some care is because they experience wear and tear due to heavy foot traffic. This can cause its appearance to deteriorate, lose color, and even rip from some areas.

However, there are simple steps you can take to ensure that your carpets won’t look worn any time soon. Through this, you will be maintaining its appearance for years to come.

If you are interested in giving this a try yourself, then just follow these steps.

How To Prevent or Slow Carpet Wear

  1. Wear house shoes – We all know that wearing street shoes on the carpet is not the best of ideas. Wearing socks does help, but house shoes will give added protection against oils that migrate from our feet, through our socks, and onto the carpet. Oils act like a dirt magnet, and just like a magnet, oils don’t like to let go of the dirt gravitating towards it.
  2. Vacuum regularly – Vacuuming your carpet once a week is a great way to help keep the carpets looking great longer. Source: Pristine Carpet Cleaning
  3. Invest in a few throw rugs and door mats – In high-traffic areas, a throw rug can really help absorb some of the impact of consistent walking and also helps absorb the dirt particles. We recommend putting door mats by entrances to the house for people to wipe their feet on. Even if they don’t wipe their feet, just walking on the mat will remove some of the particles brought in from outside! A step further than this would be to ask people to remove their shoes before coming inside. This option does not appeal to everyone, but it works well for some families and does keep the carpet from collecting all of those grating particles. Source: Sloane’s Carpet Secret

4, Change the layout – You may have noticed that your carpet sags at the places with heavy foot traffic. To stop this, change the layout of your room now and then. This will change the flow of traffic, thus lessening the damage on the carpets.

  1. Use the right cleaning methods & products – Do you know that most times the carpets get spoiled because of the usage of wrong cleaning methods and products? Research your carpet type before you purchase any cleaning products and then start the cleaning process. Source: Simply Master Services
