Looking for tips on how to remove stinky pet odor from your carpets? In this short post we’ll discuss 3 tips that will help you, including: using vinegar sprays, steamers and high quality pet odor neutralizers.
Using Vinegar Sprays
You probably don’t have to go to such great effort in your home (we hope), but if you do, at least you know vinegar will do the trick. We’re willing to bet that if you’re just moving into a place and it still smells like the dog or cat that used to live there, a good spray down with vinegar in the corners, floorboards, and carpets will take care of it. If you really want, rent a carpet cleaner and use vinegar in that. Its remarkable what vinegar can do—but then, we do list it often as one of the best ways to de-stink just about anything. Steamers
Steam cleaners work well on pet odors because they extract the hair, oil, and sweat that vacuuming alone will not get. There are many products you can use in a steam cleaner to address this kind of smell, make sure if you are buying an odor neutralizer that it is compatible with your steamer, you can also mix vinegar, denatured alcohol, or baking soda with the water before putting it into your cleaner. Wet the area and slowly pull the steam cleaner over the carpet to extract the liquid and any dirt or particles that come with it, you want to pull out as much of the moisture as you can because it will pull the odor out with it, allow for ample drying time before placing anything over that area of the carpet.

High-quality Pet Odor Neutralizers
Use a high-quality pet odor neutralizer once the area is really cleaned (available at pet supply stores). Be sure to read and follow the cleaner’s directions for use, including testing the cleaner on a small, hidden portion of fabric first to be sure it doesn’t stain. Source: HumaneSociety.org
