Homeowners love ceramic tiles for being low maintenance and easy to clean. But that doesn’t mean that you should only clean them once in a while. Keeping the beauty of your ceramic flooring lies in proper care, so take note of the following tips:

Keep tiles shiny

Sweep or vacuum your tile floors regularly to keep them from getting dull. Ceramic tiles may be resistant to dirt, but sand and grit can dull the glazed surfaces. Source: BHG

Wash tiles weekly

After sweeping or vacuuming, mop ceramic tile floors at least once a week with a small amount of mild dish detergent mixed in hot water. There should be no need to use stronger stuff, but if you wish to, test your chosen cleanser on an unobtrusive spot (like behind an appliance) to ensure it won’t harm the finish.

Avoid using a sponge mop, which will push dirt off tiles and into grout. Use a string or strip mop head instead. Replace water as soon as it gets dirty or you’ll get dull, cloudy results.

Avoid accidents

Ceramic tile can be slick when wet, so either dry the area thoroughly with a clean towel or stay out of the room until it air-dries completely to avoid a slip.

Blot spills right away

Everyday messes like spilled milk and tracked mud should be cleaned up as soon as you spot them or tiles can stain. Source: BobVila

Cleaning tough stains

For coffee, tea or juice stains, wash the tile surface with hot water and detergent, then blot with hydrogen peroxide. For grease stains, wash with club soda and water, or a commercial floor cleaner. For ink stains, soak a cloth in diluted bleach and lay it on top of the stain. Leave the cloth until the stain is gone. Rinse thoroughly when done. Source: HGTV
