Your Carpet Experts

Do you like cleaning your home whenever you get the chance? Not everyone enjoys cleaning but for some people, it’s a therapeutic way of clearing their mind.

In the case of carpet cleaning, it can be a tiring yet rewarding task because having it fresh and clean always feels good for the feet. However, some people commit carpet cleaning mistakes that could eventually lead to its ruin. If you want to avoid this, here are some things that you don’t want to do whenever you’re cleaning them.

What NOT To Do When Cleaning Your Carpet

Over-shampooing leaves residue behind

That’s right, folks. You can do too much of a good thing. And in this case, we’re talking about the shampoo (soap) applied to your carpet. We’ve found that many DIYers make this rookie mistake. Not only do they apply too much shampoo during the cleaning process, but they also don’t properly rinse out what they do apply. The chemicals left behind can damage your carpet and will leave a residue that will transform your carpet into a dirt magnet. At Sams, we use the appropriate product for your specific carpet, in the right amount. And we properly rinse the area ensuring the only thing left behind is fresh, clean carpet fibers. Don’t introduce lots of water

When a professional introduces water to your sofa or carpet fibres when cleaning, 99% of the water is extracted out again. When you add water without an extraction machine, the water stays there and is absorbed and can leave watermarks. And watermarks are one of the most surprisingly difficult stains to remove.

If you’ve decided that you cannot help yourself and you absolutely must work on the stain, follow these guidelines and you won’t cause any more damage:

  1. Remove any solids with a blunt knife first (if something like vomit or solid foodstuffs)
  2. Use a dry white absorbent towel or kitchen roll to absorb the spill. Blot gently but firmly at the stain starting from the outside of the stain in. That way you don’t risk spreading it wider. Top tip, fold the towel neatly into rectangles, that way you have lots of new clean sides if it’s a larger spill.
  3. Keep blotting until you get no more transfer onto the towel or kitchen roll.
  4. Be patient, this can take some time!
  5. If no more transfer is coming up and you still see some staining, you can dampen a clean towel with some water (ensure not hot or warm) and continue to blot at the stain with the clean slightly damp towel.
  6. You can even leave the towel down on the carpet and put some heavy object on top to encourage more absorption over time. Source: Aqua-Dry Carpet Cleaners

Hiring inexperienced or unprofessional carpet cleaners

One of the biggest mistakes people make when trying to get their carpets cleaned is hiring unprofessional cleaners. Not hiring the right service provider can lead your carpets to the mercy of succumbing to damage due to improper cleaning techniques. Additionally, you and your family could also be at risk of acquiring health issues as these cleaners may use toxic cleaning products.

To avoid this mistake, it is important to do your research and schedule carpet cleaning from a reputable and experienced company. Look for reviews and ratings online and ask for references from friends and family. A good carpet cleaning company will have trained and experienced staff that will use safe and effective cleaning agents. Additionally, a reputable cleaning company will use safe and natural procedures to clean your carpets while helping you achieve the best outcome. Source: The Healthy Home
