Your Carpet Experts

During the winter season, anyone coming into the house is likely to bring snow with them and it could cause your carpets to take extra dirt and stain. This is the reason why it’s sometimes recommended to take measures to protect them to ensure this never happens. But if you’ve forgotten, this is how you keep your carpet well-maintained during the winter season.

Maintaining Your Carpet During the Winter Season

Provide a seat and slippers

Keeping the dirt, salt and ice-melting products off the carpet begins with stopping it at the door. Family members can be trained to remove their shoes and boots before entering the main living space, but guests may not have an awareness of your home’s program. For some, bending and balancing to remove and replace shoes can be a tricky proposition. However, if you provide a little bench for them and a spare pair of slippers at the entryway, they can more happily accommodate your wishes.

Use washable walk-off rugs and runners

By placing mats or rugs at the entries to the home, a lot of filth can be caught before it has a chance to get into the home. If shoe removal isn’t practical or desirable at your place, at least try to catch the worst of it at the door. Then, lay down runners along the high traffic lanes from the entrances. Runners not only protect the carpet from snow-bearing shoes, but they’ll also keep the beaten paths in better condition for the rest of the year. Source: Chet’s Cleaning

Place and maintain walk-off mats

Mats, at least 12-15 feet long, should be placed at all building entries to absorb soil and moisture before it gets on indoor carpeting.

Vacuum more to clean less

Vacuum all high-traffic areas, entries, and main hallways more often. Vacuuming not only removes dry soil, but it also keeps it from becoming airborne and spreading, covering desks, cabinets and surfaces.

Use efficient vacuum cleaners

Commercial, high-efficiency vacuum cleaners in good working order are essential to good carpet care. Vacuums with HEPA air-filtration systems help keep the indoor air clean and the environment healthy. Source: Waxie Way

Monitor and control indoor humidity

Be attentive to indoor humidity levels during the dry winter months, as low humidity can lead to static electricity, attracting dirt and debris to your carpets. Use a humidifier to maintain optimal humidity levels, reducing the likelihood of your carpets becoming magnets for unwanted particles. This proactive step contributes to the overall health and longevity of your carpet fibers. Source: Linkedin
